Training & Resource Development
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
~ Helen Keller
An 8-year-old boy in America told his parents that he wanted
to be a doctor when he grew up. His parents were very pleased
to hear that and were ready to support him 100%. On the other
side of the globe in China, however, another boy of the same age
told his teacher that he wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up,
but the teacher said that this was impossible because he was blind.
Training & resource development programs are designed to enable the disabled in China to
reach their full potential by helping them in their work, study
and daily life.
This enabling work in China includes pre-school education, special
education, integrated education, post-secondary education, vocational
training, job opportunity development, job placement, placement
follow-up, community awareness, assistive technology, occupational
therapy, rehabilitation counseling, disability prevention, training
the trainers, etc.
Are you a Christian and do you have a heart for the disabled
people in China? If your answer is ´Yes´, please contact us for
more information.
1) Assistive Technology Development Promotion & Consultation
Rainbow Missions provides consultation and training to universities
and organizations in China interested in developing assistive
technology. Assistive technology is being developed all over the
world to improve the quality of life of the individuals with disability;
however, these products may not be appropriate for China due to
the expense and the need for adaptation to the locale.
In addition, Peter Wong and Bosco Chan also participate in assistive
technology conferences to encourage the development of assistive
technology appropriate to China.
2) Individual Assistive Technology Consultancy
From time to time, individuals in China approach Rainbow Missions
when they personally have a need for assistive technology and
do not know how to go about getting it. Rainbow Missions tries
to meet this need as best as we can through assessment, consultation
and training.
3) Career Development
God has created each of us uniquely, and whether or not a person
is disabled, society can benefit from everyone´s input. Rainbow
Missions seeks to ensure that individuals coping with disabilities
in China can receive training and education so they can be useful
members of their community. Currently, Rainbow Missions is seeking
to install a solid infrastructure that will encourage and help
those wanting a better life to achieve it. Perhaps a blind person
would enjoy being a translator or a counselor. Or, perhaps a person
that could not be employed at a regular job could become self-employed
in creative ways. Rainbow Missions seeks to partner with other
organizations or ministries that want to help people in all walks
of life achieve their full potential.
4) Counseling Training
Counseling is a relatively new concept in China. Rainbow
Counseling Ministry brings in counseling experts from outside of
China to provide training for students and workers who are
actually in the field. So far, we have been training students in
Chongqing Normal University and the teachers in their Children
Development Center, as well as
the teachers in Chongqing School for the Blind.
5) Short Term Service Trips
Each year Rainbow Missions organizes trips to China to serve
the under privileged. Past participants enjoyed
the trips thoroughly and considered them as life-changing experiences. They got involved in teaching the visually impaired
students arts and crafts, music, English language and social studies.
They celebrated Christmas with the cognitively impaired students,
their parents and their teachers. They brought the students out
to the zoo.
They went shopping
with students who seldom get to go out because they are visually
impaired. Some other participants lectured in the universities
on special education, occupational therapy or assistive technology
and counseling skills. On top of it all, everybody gets to enjoy a wide
variety of Chinese food!
Sounds interesting?
We are looking for Christians who enjoy working with children
and youth who may be visually or cognitively impaired; or, Christian
professionals with skills in education/special education, assistive
technology, occupational therapy, or counseling.
